Couple of New Cowtoons

Whats in a name? or "SLIM"?

 "Slim?" I've heard that many times as one looks at my cartoons, sees the chicken scratch in the bottom right hand corner, then quizzically looks me over. Wished I'd a sold a calendar for every time that has happened the last few years. The questioning is justified, though, as I don't really fit that moniker.
    So how does a man ( I use that term loosely) standing 6 foot 5 inches and weighing 265 gain that title? Well, two reasons actually. I was thinner at one time. But marrying a great cook and turning thirty changed that. Turning thirty? Yes, I believe that when you turn thirty, your body rebels. Every nasty thing you ate or drank before that time comes out of hiding. I sware I went to bed on June 21st 2008 and only weighed 220. Woke up the next morning to 260.
    The second and real reason is that no one gave that name to me, I made it up. Back in high school I had a character I called Slim Wiley. He was a conglomeration of all my youthful dreams. Over time , and for what exact reason I don't know, I began signing all my toons and poems as SLIM. I even was planning a book of poems entitled " The Ponderments of SLIM". So that just stuck. Been doing it for eighteen years and don't reckon I"ll stop now.
   It does kinda stick out though, sure something folks can remember easy. Wheeler Oliver Hughes IV isn't just something that scribbles out easy. Not very cartoony but might be a good name for a lawyer or something. I'll stick with SLIM. Y'all keep laughin' and God Bless!

Cowtoons meet MARY KAY!

Well, I reckon I survived the Mary Kay Christmas party last night. It was sure an experience. They gave away one of my calendars as a door prize, so I had to make an appearance and be introduced to the crowd. I believe I turned pinker than one of their Caddy's. It was fun though, they seem to be good people and all of them have a good time. Kind of a different crowd for me though, sorta stuck out. Ladies decked out to the nines, their husbands in suit and tie, then here's SLIM and Lauren. Lauren looked great! Leave it to a ranch wife to have to change clothes in the back of a suburban and come out looking like a movie star. Ol' little bitty SLIM changed in the front seat, (picture a polar bear in a refrigerator box), and waddles up to the shindig in a Santy tie and his nicest denim jacket. Oh, don't forget the hat, 5 inch taco kinda tops the whole deal off. Needless to say I didn't blend in well. That's alright though, gonna have to get used to it, Lauren's on her way to a promising career in Mary Kay Cosmetics! (Somebody's gotta pay for all my bad habits) Won't it be funny though, seeing SLIM feeding cows and hauling horses around in a pink Cadillac? Writing pink checks down at the feed store? Custom Calendars

Well, it's been super busy around here and the clock is ticking on getting our stuff finished for 2012 calendars. Calendars should be ready by the beginning of September. They are printed on heavy cover paper and you have room for a 11"x 2" ad at the bottom. There is plenty of room for your logo, name and any other information you want on there. So, if you need an advertising calendar that will give your customers a smile all year long, and remind them how much they enjoyed doing business with you, then give us a call!

Been a while!

All the recuperating after the holidays and catching up on life around here has made us a little slow keepin' things up on the website. Been doing some drawing for Working Ranch magazine and starting things up for calendars already!

Christmas Ordering

Christmas is less than 6 weeks away and now's the time most of us start doing our planning if not our shopping for all our family and friends. Slim & I are pretty lucky, every year everyone we know gets a calendar and a mug...it's no surprise. We like to keep it simple. But for all you who aren't on our gift exchanging list, you too can join us, as elite, humorous, one of a kind, gift givers and get all your friends and family a calendar and mugs.

Hey y'all, you know sending out Christmas cards is just right around the corner...along with many other things... and we've got plenty of Christmas cards in stock right now. We're taking orders for folks, so get yours in soon! You can order by phone or you can send us a message and we'll send you an order form if you prefer. "Joy to the World" is the 2010 Christmas card and we also have "Santy chose Broncs" as well as "Hitch the mules to the Wagon". They all come with red envelopes and are sold in sets of 10 (5x7) for $15.00 (plus tax)

Tom Butler Memorial Bronc Riding

Headed this weekend for the Bronc Riding in Post, Texas. This is an all day affair and should be a blast! We'll have a booth there and probably get some good material for cartoons and get to see some old friends, too. If you happen to be in the area come by and see us!

Nara Visa Cowboy Poetry Gathering!

Hey there! Well we are back from the poetry gathering. We had a wonderful experience and a great time. Just goes to show that it is a small world especially in cow country and just about anywhere in the west where people still keep there doors unlocked and coffee on their stove or iced tea in the fridge. It was so good to be back home and seems like everywhere we went we ran into old friends or made new ones! The gathering was great and we had a wonderful response on the poetry as well as the cartoons. We had calendars, bumper stickers and mugs there and people sure did seem to like them...they even bought them! We also delivered some advertising calendars to a spur maker up there...thanks M. Turner Spurs! If any of y'all are ever looking for some buckles or jewelry, bits or spurs you ought'a look him up. He lives in Dalhart, Texas. Anyhow here are some pics from the gathering. If you are ever up in north eastern New Mexico the 3rd weekend of September you should take some time to come.

Good news coming up! Ranch World Ads magazine has one of my cartoons coming up in their magazine soon and Working Ranch has hopefully bought one from me for their next issue.
